My sister and I grew up getting pretty much everything we wanted from our parents. Sometime last year, Ana and I were talking and realized that we have both reached a level in our professional careers that allowed us to start giving back. We decided to gift them for their 30th anniversary a week long trip in late June to Los Cabos, Baja California, Mexico.
We chose Los Cabos because for reasons yet unknown to me, my mother had always mentioned it as a place she really wanted to visit. It turned out to be a great choice. This trip was our first vacation as a family since 2014. It was without question, one of the highlights of 2018 for me.
We spent the majority of our time at the pool of the resort relaxing. My father, sister, and I have high stress jobs so it felt good to disconnect and relax. During the time we were there, The World Cup Russia 2018 was happening and we could watch the games by the pool. It was awesome, mainly because we got to watch Colombia win two of three games of the group stage and qualify to the second round first in their group.
Golf was a big part of my upbringing and the sport I play with my mother and father. I have been privileged to play in incredible golf courses with them all over the world. This trip was no exception. Our resort was home to Cabo del Sol Ocean course which is the second best course in Mexico and one of the best courses in the world. The round we played there was one of the most memorable rounds I’ve ever played.
The second round we played we went to Palmilla, another fantastic course in Los Cabos. A little more challenging that Cabo del Sol, Palmilla has some of the most interesting golf holes I’ve ever played.
As a family, we also enjoy eating in great restaurants. My final night there, we went to Flora’s Field Kitchen, an incredible outdoor farm-to-table place in the outskirts of San Jose del Cabo. I highly recommend looking into eating there if you are ever in Los Cabos.
It was amazing sharing those days with my mom, my dad, and my sister. All of us live in different countries, but I am glad we are able to build memories in incredible places.
